Intent – What are we trying to achieve?
At Hope Community School, our curriculum is the starting point of a life-long learning journey. We want every child to experience a broad, exciting and inclusive curriculum that helps them grow academically, socially and spiritually. Our Christian values sit at the heart of everything we do and guide how we teach and care for our pupils. We aim to develop confident learners and responsible citizens who see themselves as part of their community and the wider world. Through Openness, we encourage curiosity and respect for others; through Adventure, we inspire children to explore new ideas; through Creativity, we value original thinking; and through Excellence, we strive for high achievement for all.
Implementation – How is the curriculum taught?
Our curriculum is carefully designed by our teaching team to meet the needs of the children and community we serve. Learning is planned in a clear sequence so knowledge and skills build year by year, helping children remember and apply what they have learned. Each subject is led by a knowledgeable subject leader who ensures high standards and continuous improvement. Reading, writing and maths are prioritised, with a strong phonics programme in the early years and rich texts used throughout the school to build vocabulary and understanding. Lessons are inclusive, engaging and often linked to real-life and local experiences, supporting Creativity, Adventure and Openness in learning.
Impact – What difference does this make for children?
As a result of our curriculum, children leave Hope Community School as confident readers, writers and mathematicians, with a strong foundation across all subjects. They develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to succeed in the next stage of education and beyond. Pupils learn to think critically, solve problems and take pride in their achievements. Importantly, they also see themselves as ‘community entrepreneurs’ — children who can make positive changes in their local community and wider world. This reflects our commitment to Excellence in academic outcomes, Openness to different perspectives, Creativity in thinking, and Adventure in embracing new challenges.
