Thought of the day 23/4/20

Today is St George’s Day, the patron saint of England.  George was a Roman soldier but was also a Christian.  He was known for his bravery and he protested against the way the Romans treated Christians.  He was sent to prison and tortured but he never lost his faith in Jesus Christ.  His symbol is a red cross and it is a reminder to us of hope and standing strong in the face of adversity.

Over the past few weeks I have been reflecting on a different cross – the cross of Christ.  We can look to this cross to give us hope for the future and to help us stand strong in the face of this current adversity.  But the cross of Christ is so much more.  In the Bible it says:

For God so loved that the world that he gave His one and only Son (on the cross) so that everyone who believes in Him will not die but have eternal life”.

In the Cross of Christ, we not only have hope and strength for today, tomorrow, next year.  But we have the promise of eternal life with our Heavenly Father.
