Thought of the day 24/4/20

Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:20-21

So – these are a famous couple of verses from the Bible. It is about treasure and your heart. I wonder what treasure you are storing. What do you invest your time, energy and thought life in? I wonder whether the last few weeks have made you re-evaluate what is important in your life and what isn’t? I think most people are realising that relationships and family are real treasure – much more than material things. If that is true for you – consider how you will invest in these things even when lockdown is over.

The other point is the impact of treasure on our heart. I wonder what the state of your heart is – not your physical heart – but your inner self heart. If it is not in a good state maybe your treasure is in the wrong place – because that is where your heart will be. If your treasure is in things that can’t love you back your heart will be very empty.

In the Bible it makes it clear where the best place to store your treasure is and where your heart will be safest – that is with God himself. It says in Psalm 136 it repeats the line -  ‘His faithful love endures forever’ – over and over again. His love is constant and consistent - just what any heart needs!
